Fugitive Brit, 39, Wanted On Child Sex Charges Caught In Chiang Mai

A fugitive Brit wanted for child sex crimes has finally been caught four years after fleeing the UK.

Alan Jhon Macleod, 39, was charged in 2008 and 2012 with producing, possessing, and publishing child pornography. He is alleged to have enticed children through the internet.

Macleod, whose previous surname was O’Hagan before he changed it, failed to appear in court in 2012 which lead to arrest warrants being issued.

He was finally traced to the seedy Sukhumvit Road red light area of Bangkok, Thailand, before Thai police arrested him in the last week of July.

According to the immigration police, the British paedophile arrived in the country in 2016 and started living a low-profile life in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand.

Officers of Immigration Bureau were alerted and started tracking him after the UK embassy raised a concern that Macleod would commit similar crimes in the country.

The investigation beginning in March this year eventually led the police officers to arrest the suspect, who escaped to Sukhumvit district in Bangkok city couple weeks ago.

Police Colonel Prasert Wichitasana, the Deputy Commander of Immigration Police, said on Friday August 2 that Macleod has his visa revoked and will be deported.

He said: ”Macleod often used social media to lure children under 18 for sex exploitation and would change his name before travelling to other places after getting caught.

”We haven’t found evidence that indicates he had committed a crime in Thailand yet. We have to keep him until all the evidence and information have been gathered.

”Meanwhile, we are contacting the UK embassy to arrange his deportation before face charges in his home country.”
