Jealous Husband Cut Off His Wife’s Hand

A jealous husband hacked off his wife’s hand after accusing her of having an affair – then calmly went to pray.

The 39-year-old husband confronted his 24-year-old wife in a car park under their block of flats just after midnight on Sunday in Penang, Malaysia.

The couple, who have not been named, began arguing as he furiously castigated her for studying nursing and claimed she had been having an affair with another man for over two years.

He then used a 18-inch long jungle knife to slice off her forearm just above the wrist and left her in a bloodbath before calmly walking to a nearby prayer room in a mosque.

Horrified passers-by found the crying wife and at 12:55am on Sunday morning called police who picked up the severed limb.

The victim was rushed to the Penang Hospital where surgeons spent 15 hours re-attaching her hand. She was also treated for a broken foot sustained in the attack and medics are still waiting to see if she will recover the use of her hand.

Basirah Begum M. Sharif, the woman’s mother, said the pair had two young children together but were going through a divorce.

She said ”My daughter is still in shock and traumatised, our family is continuously giving her words of encouragement to stay strong for her children. Alhamdulillah, our family is grateful that the surgery was successful and I hope her hand can function as usual again.

The mother said her daughter’s husband was a jealous person and he had long kept a grudge against the woman for continuing her nursing studies at a medical college in Kuala Lumpur.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Division and the Southwest Police Headquarters Task Force traced the husband to a ‘surau’ in the Jalan Macallum part of the George Town district. He was arrested at 3am some three hours after the attack.

Southwest District Police chief Supt A.A Anbalagan said the suspect had been remanded until August 19 to assist with investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

He said: ”Police received a report of a robbery in which the victim had been injured. However, preliminary investigation found nothing stolen.

”The victim was immediately rushed to the Penang Hospital for treatment

”We found a bag and an empty knife box. We believe the knife was used by the suspect in the attack.

”The suspect admitted to chopping off his wife’s hand with a knife. He said he did so out of revenge and jealousy, suspecting his wife of having an affair with another man for the past two years.”
