A Brit who sparked anger by taking tourists on naked buffalo rides was in jail today after being found with 4,000GBP of CANNABIS.
Liam Cox, 35, moved to surf capital of the Philippines, Surigao del Norte, several years ago – opening a backpacker bar and guest house on an island there.
He was arrested for causing ‘grave scandal’ in February after a ‘drunken carabao ride’ he had been running for a number of years caused anger among locals when a man and woman stripped off.
But the bungling expat father-of-one appears not to have learned his lesson after eagle-eyed cops became suspicious about a sign outside his bar that said in large green letters ‘DRUGS, SEX, BEER, RUM, COKE’.
Vice cops from the Philippines Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) raided Cox’s ‘Drop Inn Bar’ on the Siargao Island on Sunday night at 8.15pm.
Despite the Philippines undergoing a deadly drugs crackdown striking fear into the population, officers said they had found a staggering 500g (half a kilogram) of cannabis worth around 4,000gbp on the premises.
There were also drugs paraphernalia and bongs strewn across tables and Cox was found to be under the influence of cannabis when he was arrested.
Pictures taken by the drugs squad – with cops’ faces blacked out to prevent revenge attacks – show shaggy-haired Cox looking on in HANDCUFFS as police raid the bamboo shack.
A statement from PDEA Regional Office XIII described the bar as a ”drugs den”.
It said: ”Armed with Search Warrant No. SW-03-2018 dated April 5, 2018 issued by an Executive Judge of a Regional Trial Court in Agusan del Norte, joint elements of PDEA13 Provincial Offices, under the close supervision of Regional Director Aileen T. Lovitos and Acting Assistant Regional Director Irvin John R. Coderis, arrested four drug personalities in Siargao Island after several suspected marijuana dried leaves and drug paraphernalia were seized.
”Three were high-valued targets including a British national. Director Lovitos identified the arrested British national as Liam Cox while the latter’s cohort as drug den maintainer was also identified as Kirby Clet alias “kitoy”, a registered nurse in the Philippines and Australia.”
Cops said that Cox underwent a test and was found to be under the influence of drugs when he was arrested.
The two other men arrested at the bar were Filipinos Raul Fernando Dycueco and Rolf Jingle Congreso.
The statement added: ”More or less, a total of five hundred grams (500g) of dried marijuana leaves were seized.
”One large “Folded and Hung” paper bag (marked with LC-3) was recovered from Liam Cox containing a large white plastic sando bag (marked with LC-2) that contains suspected dried marijuana wrapped in newspaper.
”The said operation is a High Impact Operation (HIO) considering the arrest of three high value targets with a significant volume of seized illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia in a drug den.
”Further, it makes a significant effect in the illegal drug situation in Siargao Islands particularly in the municipality of General Luna, the Surfing Capital of the Philippines and a center of tourism in the province of Surigao del Norte.
”The Receipt of Property Seized was witnessed by the representative from the local elected barangay officials and a representative from the Department of Justice.
”The suspects are currently detained at PDEA13 Custodial Facility for proper disposition. Kirby Clet alias ‘Kitoy’, Liam Cox, and Raul Fernando Dycueco were found positive and were under the influence of dangerous drugs upon arrest.”
