Paassenger, 50, Drowns After Stepping Off Moving Canal Boat

This is the harrowing moment a man drowned after trying to step off a moving boat onto a canal pier.

Theerapong Silasit, 50, was riding the passenger boat when it approached the wooden boarding pier this morning.

But the boat – travelling in the morning rush hour – appears to be trying to save time as it fails to stop at the pier.

The man tries to step off the boat onto dry land but misjudged the distance and misses the pier – plunging into the filthy water in Bangkok, Thailand.

Shocked passengers can be seen on CCTV looking back as the man disappears below the surface.

Rescue workers later recovered the body some 10 meters away from the pier and sent it to hospital for a post mortem examination.

A spokesman for the Thai Royal Police said that they were aware of CCTV footage and that nobody had been charged over the death.
