Airport staff were stunned when they opened a suitcase and found 55 live REPTILES.
Customs officials at Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, Thailand, became suspicious when the luggage started moving.
They checked inside and found a staggering 32 protected turtles, eight baby monitor lizards and 15 crocodile lizards.
Pictures show the young creatures crammed into bamboo rice holders mixed among socks and cuddly toys in the luggage.
The Japanese woman, Maki Takahashi, 44, was arrested before she could board the flight to Tokyo at 9.50pm on Tuesday evening.
A Royal Thai Police spokesman said: ”The woman was arrested at the airport and charged.
”This is the illegal trading of protected wildlife. She had been offered money to smuggle the reptiles to Japan.”
Police said she Takahashi been travelling with her six-month-old son and she said she was offered 30,000THB (600GBOP) to carry the bag.
The woman claimed that she did not know what was inside the black hard-protective rolling style executive case.
She said was a single mother and needed the money after being dumped by her husband.
